Work Exposure in Government (WEX)

Applications are now open for the WEX Regional Garramilla/Darwin 2024. Applications will remain open until Monday the 25 March.

We are seeking applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10, 11 and 12. We are only seeking applicants attending schools in either the Northern Territory or South Australia. 

The Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with hands-on experience and knowledge of career pathways in the Australian Government.  

WEX Regional Garramilla/Darwin 2024 will occur between Monday 6 May to Friday 10 May 2024 in Garramilla/Darwin, NT.

All accommodation, transportation and meals are provided at no cost. Students are accompanied by teachers and mentors who provide cultural mentoring and leadership guidance.

Activities and experiences may include:

  • Meeting First Nations leaders and obtaining advice on career planning.
  • Visits to different Australian Government agencies.
  • Obtaining advice on career planning. 
  • Working alongside Indigenous mentors who will help guide your personal leadership journey.
  • Meeting other Indigenous students and future leaders.
  • 1 on 1 and small group workshops on leadership, mentoring and how to make the most of your school learning experience. 
  • Cultural activities.
  • A Careers Expo, where students can talk to representatives from a range of government agencies.
  • Prizes, giveaways, and WEX merchandise packs.
