Applications are now open for WEX Regional 2026. Applications will close on 15 March 2026.

The Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with hands-on experience and knowledge about career pathways in the Australian Government.

WEX Regional 2026 will be held from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May 2026.

All accommodation, transportation and meals are provided at no cost and students will be accompanied by teachers and mentors who will provide cultural mentoring and leadership guidance.

Activities and experiences may include:

  • Meeting First Nations leaders and obtaining advice on career planning.
  • Visits to different Australian Government agencies.
  • Working alongside Indigenous mentors who will help guide your personal leadership journey.
  • Meeting other Indigenous students and future leaders.
  • One-on-one and small group workshops on leadership, mentoring and how to make the most of your school learning experience.
  • Cultural activities.
  • A Careers Expo, where students can talk to representatives from a range of government agencies.
