Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Heritage

We fund Indigenous heritage projects through the Indigenous Advancement Strategy.

Places that are important to Indigenous people are kept in good condition through heritage projects. The projects help them care for their cultural heritage while also providing training, employment and business opportunities.

Caring for cultural and heritage sites is also an important part of managing Indigenous land and sea country, which we support with in  Indigenous Protected Areas and Indigenous ranger projects.

In December 2015, the Government released its Australian Heritage Strategy, which will ensure that our Indigenous heritage places are identified, conserved and protected.
