Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Framlingham Forest IPA

Framlingham Forest Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), dedicated in 2009, covers 1,130 hectares of native forests in south-west Victoria. Framlingham Forest is the largest remnant of native forest containing stringybark and manna gum savannah that once dominated the landscape around the town Warrnambool.

The Framlingham Forest and Hopkins River continue to provide resources for the Traditional Owners, the Gunditjmara people. Hunting, fishing and gathering of traditional food and materials, ceremonial activities and traditional management techniques of the forest and river’s resources all provide important links to cultural practices and sense of identity.
