Marri-Jabin IPA and Thamarrurr Rangers

Dedicated in 2010, the first stage of the Marri-Jabin Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) covers around 71,200 hectares around the Moyle and Little Moyle River area.

The Thamarrurr Land and Sea Rangers are based in Wadeye and patrol an area of approximately 1.8 million hectares of country, which includes 200 kilometres of coastline and the IPA.

The rangers survey and manage invasive weeds, feral animals, marine invertebrates and diseases. Other activities include monitoring sea turtles, other threatened species and their habitats; managing fire; documenting and maintaining significant cultural sites; and passing on cultural knowledge to the next generation.
