Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Weilmoringle IPA

The Murrawarri people dedicated around 3,500 hectares of their traditional lands as the Weilmoringle Indigenous Protected Area in 2011.

This area is home to vulnerable birds like the Major Mitchell cockatoos that feed on saltbush and wattle seeds, and brolgas that feed in the dry grasslands and shallow marshes.

The Murrawarri people’s relationship to the land remains strong and a number of traditional campsites, artefacts and scarred trees remain.
