The Kimberley Land Council (KLC), North Queensland Land Council (NQLC), Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) and Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) were invited to apply for recognition as the native title representative body for their regions from 1 July 2021. A map of representative body regions is below. Native title representative bodies help people to make native title claims and agreements. KLC, NQLC, TSRA and YMAC are currently the native title representative bodies for their regions. Their current terms expire on 30 June 2021.
People with native title interests in one or more of the regions covered by these organisations, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in those regions were invited to make a submission to inform the Minister’s decision. Submissions closed on 19 March 2021.
