We are working to fix the disproportionate disadvantage in remote Australia.
The Remote Australia Strategies (RAS) Programme is designed to support projects that contribute to improved education, employment and community safety in remote areas. This national programme adapts to local circumstances and supports innovation.
$290.6 million for 2014-15 to 2018‑19 has been provided to fund activities that lead to one or more of the following outcomes:
- Flexible, place-based agreements with Indigenous communities and regions to improve school attendance, increase employment levels and improve community safety.
- Improved infrastructure in remote areas including telecommunications and renewable energy systems.
The RAS Programme also supports a number of Government commitments such as Cape York Welfare Reform, the Army Aboriginal Community Assistance Program and Budget measures like Outback Power.
