Discussion Paper now available for comment Indigenous Skills and Employment Program Discussion Paper Consultation closes 10 September 2021

A discussion paper has been launched to begin consultation for developing a new local Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP) – a commitment announced in the 2021-22 Budget. The new ISEP will replace the Vocational Training and Employment Centres (VTEC), Tailored Assistance Employment Grants (TAEG) and Employment Parity Initiative (EPI) from 1 July 2022.

This discussion paper is a central element of the consultation process to inform the design of the new Program, to ensure ISEP increases economic opportunities for Indigenous Australians and drives actions that connect Indigenous Australians to jobs, targeted skills acquisition and career advancement opportunities.

NIAA is seeking feedback on what is working well and what the areas of need are with Indigenous-specific employment programs. All Australians are invited to share their views through a submission to this discussion paper.

The future model is seeking strong community input and will work in partnership with Indigenous communities – delivering on the Government’s commitment in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Consultation will be open for seven weeks with face-to-face consultations happening across Australia, as well as accepting online submissions.

Read a copy of the paper and submit your feedback.

Closing date for submissions is 10 September 2021.
