A vision of better connecting Indigenous Australians to economic opportunity is coming to life with roundtables beginning for a new National Roadmap for Indigenous Skills, Jobs and Wealth Creation.

The National Roadmap will be informed by Indigenous Australians and industry through a series of roundtables held throughout August and September 2021 with the presence of Indigenous representative bodies and entrepreneurs, business chambers and big business, employee groups, tertiary education and service providers, respective Commonwealth departments and agencies.

On 24 August 2021, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, Minister for Indigenous Australians, launched these roundtables with a small group of Industry Champions – Indigenous and non-Indigenous – who will work closely with the Minister to support the Roadmap’s development.

The launch and roundtables aim to:

  • Identify priorities that better connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their businesses to economic opportunity.
  • Agree on a set of actions that will get more people job-ready and increase Indigenous participation in the workforce.
  • Generate private sector energy and support for the National Roadmap agenda.
  • Infuse ideas and priorities into the National Roadmap.
  • Outline roles and responsibilities of public and private entities to progress the agenda.
