Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Council on family, domestic and sexual violence (Advisory Council)

The Advisory Council was established to work in formal partnership with government to develop the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032 (National Plan). The Advisory Council led the development of the dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan (Action Plan) under the National Plan and providing advice on culturally safe, whole of population approaches to ending violence against women and children.

Achievements over the last 12 months: 

  • The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan 2023-2025 was launched on 16 August 2023.
  • The Advisory Council led face-to-face consultations from September 2022 to May 2023. The consultations were attended by more than 1850 people at more than 40 events.
  • The Advisory Council is now supporting the implementation of the measures that received funding from the 23-24 Budget under the Action Plan.

Partnership elements strengthened: 

32B(iii) – Not Applicable as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members chose not to strengthen this element.

32A(ii) met in 2022 however the 2023 agreed response indicated this does not meet.
