Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Safety Services

Action description: 

18 providers are funded via the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) to deliver 20 activities under the 3rd and 4th Action Plans (3AP and 4AP) of the National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children (2010-2022). Services funded under the 3AP and 4AP invest in critical activities that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family safety.
3AP programs Funding is provided to 11 different service providers across Australia that work specifically on family issues in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These sites are mostly located in remote and sparsely populated areas. Services delivered by 3AP programs assist service providers deliver initiatives to address one or more of four categories trauma-informed therapeutic services, men's behaviour change programs, intensive family case management, and victim services through legal service providers.
4AP programs Funding is provided to nine different service providers across Australia to deliver culturally appropriate and trauma-informed, place-based service delivery models in remote areas that meet the requirements of both of the Indigenous-specific measures under the 4AP of the National Plan. Investment in 4AP addresses identified local drivers of family and domestic violence including specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by violence.
