Establishment of the First Nations General Practice Training Committee (FNGPTC)to oversee the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GP Training and Salary Support Program

Action description: 

The First Nations General Practice Training Committee (FNGPTC) was established in late 2023. The FNGPTC advises the Australian Government and GP Colleges on all aspects of First Nations GP training. This includes recommendations to:

  • attract more GP registrars to train in First Nations health settings
  • support, attract and retain First Nations doctors in GP training, including the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Salary Support Program.
  • ensure the national approach for GP training works toward Closing the Gap in health outcomes and supports a culturally safe health workforce.
