Foundation Skills for Your Future - Remote Community Pilots

Action description:

The four pilots are testing ways to improve access to and development of English language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in remote community. The Remote Community Pilots (the Pilots) are located in the far west coast communities of Ceduna, Koonibba, Scotdesco, Yalata and Oak Valley in South Australia - Djarindjin/ Ardyaloon/ Lombadina and Beagle Bay in the Dampier Peninsula of Western Australia - Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory - Doomadgee in northern Queensland. This will improve literacy rates which will contribute to Target 6.

As part of the 2023-24 Budget the Government agreed to extend the Pilots by 12 months to 30 June 2024 at a cost of up to $3.5 million. The extension of the Pilot will allow the Government to implement a redesigned Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program which includes specific support for First Nations peoples. From 1 July 2024 grant funding will be made available to First Nation Community-Controlled organisations to partner with Registered Training Organisations or Adult Community Education providers to deliver tailored language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills training in community.
