Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Funding for the Family Violence Prevention Legal Services (FVPLS)

Action description:

Continued funding for 16 FVPLS across Australia to deliver culturally safe legal and critical non-legal wrap around services to First Nations peoples who are victim-survivors of family violence and/or sexual assault (predominately women and children). The Government has invested in FVPLS providers since the sector was established in 1998.

FVPLS providers address the legal needs and facilitate non-legal wraparound support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and sexual assault. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and sexual assault should be supported and empowered to lead lives free from the impacts of violence, and have access to culturally safe legal and non-legal support services.
