Established in 2020, the Local Jobs Program is a collaborative place-based program aimed at improving the functions of local labour markets. The Program is due to terminate on 30 June 2025. The Program is delivered through Employment Facilitators across 51 Employment Regions, who bring together local employment and skills services, employers and community organisations to connect people to training, job opportunities and support services. The Program connects people with local employment and skills opportunities and builds the adaptive capacity of local labour markets.
The Local Recovery Fund is available across regions to support locally driven initiatives that meet the priorities identified in the Local Jobs Plan and are tailored to the opportunities and needs identified in each region.
The National Priority Fund, part of the Program, is designed to help address structural and other barriers to employment faced by people in communities and facilitate job creation. One of the six priorities for future funding is supporting more First Nations people in employment, education or training in areas where Employment Regions and the Community Development Program meet.
