Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Practical support for members of the Stolen Generations and their families

We recognise that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have lower levels of wellbeing than other Australians. We know that many children were removed from their families and that this has caused suffering to them and their families. We fund programs and services that help members of the Stolen Generations and their families reconnect and heal. We fund programs that help strengthen the health, wellbeing and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and we fund workforce support and training for workers in the field.

Social and emotional wellbeing services:

We provide funding in support of improving the health, wellbeing and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.

Funding is delivered to organisations across Australia that provide social and emotional wellbeing support services. Specific activities include:

  • Social and emotional wellbeing support services – counselling, case management, referral, advocacy, wellbeing activities and health promotion.

  • Link-Up services – family tracing, reunions and counselling support for members of the Stolen Generations and their families.

  • Workforce support services - access to training needs analysis, targeted training programs and mentoring; Registered training services – access to training opportunities to obtain qualifications, pathways for study or career progression.

We also support policy development relating to the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and members of the Stolen Generations.
