Have your say about draft legislation to amend the CATSI Act

Have your say about draft legislation to amend the CATSI Act

Indigenous Affairs Economic Development Review of the CATSI Act
Thursday, 08 July 2021

National Indigenous Australians Agency

Consultation now open: CATSI Amendment Bill Exposure Draft

An exposure draft (draft legislation) which proposes changes to the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) is now available for feedback.

The CATSI Act is the law that assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups to form corporations. The proposed changes to the legislation reflect recommendations from the CATSI Act Review Final Report which was published in February 2021 following a comprehensive review of the CATSI Act undertaken in 2019–2020.

We would like to hear from stakeholders about those parts of the draft legislation they support and those parts that may concern them in terms of practicality and implementation. We are also interested in hearing about whether the legislation is clear, easy to understand and readable.

We have developed resources to help you understand the draft legislation including:

  • a guide which explains how recommendations from the broader review are being taken forward
  • a series of fact sheets.

To provide feedback, you can:

Visit Review of the CATSI Act for more information on feedback opportunities and to register for a virtual consultation session.

If you would like to provide feedback in another way, please email CATSIActReview@niaa.gov.au or call the NIAA on (02) 6271 5111.

Consultation closes at 9am Monday, 9 August 2021.
