Completing the Annual Project Plan and Budget

In this factsheet, you will find out about the Annual Project Plan and Budget (APP&B) process for Indigenous Rangers Program (IRP) providers. The APP&B outlines your ranger group’s planned activities, expected outputs, and budget for the upcoming financial year. The APP&B must be submitted by 30 June each year using the template provided by NIAA. The APP&B is developed in consultation with your NIAA Engagement Officer. It ensures your work aligns with Traditional Owner aspirations, strategic goals, and environmental priorities. It also serves as both a planning and reporting tool. It must include detailed activity descriptions, budget allocations across key categories (such as wages, operations, training, and assets), and demonstrate progress from previous years. Accurate Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) calculations and financial reporting are essential for reporting. Once approved by both your organisation and the NIAA, the APP&B guides project delivery and expenditure for the year ahead.

Reporting your IRP Grant

This Factsheet outlines the reporting requirements for Indigenous Rangers Program (IRP) grant recipients, including the importance of submitting accurate performance and financial report, typically every six or twelve months, based on your funding agreement and risk rating. Reports must detail project progress, achievements, challenges, and financial management, and include First Nations Performance Stories to highlight community impact.

An Annual Project Plan and Budget (APP&B) is required each June to guide and report on planned activities. Reporting is done via the IAS Online Performance Assessment Report, with mid-year and annual submissions. The NIAA uses these reports to monitor compliance, assess outcomes, and provide support. Variations to the funding agreement may be requested in writing but are subject to NIAA approval.
