Indigenous Advancement Strategy Survey

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is interested to hear how the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) can best support the needs and aspirations of First Nations people and communities.

We want to ensure the IAS is supporting First Nations communities to achieve their priorities and delivering services to meet their needs. We also want to ensure the IAS is supporting the goals of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

What is the IAS?

The IAS is the main way the NIAA funds and delivers programs for First Nations people and communities. Through the IAS, the NIAA funds and delivers a range of programs and activities that contribute to outcomes across 6 program areas:

  1. Jobs, Land and the Economy
  2. Children and Schooling
  3. Safety and Wellbeing
  4. Culture and Capability
  5. Remote Australia Strategies
  6. Research and Evaluation.

Why do we want to hear from you?

We have recently delivered new or expanded programs like the Remote Jobs and Economic Development (RJED) and Indigenous Rangers programs. We would like to build on these developments to ensure all IAS investment is effectively responding to the needs and aspirations of First Nations peoples.

We are seeking feedback from service providers, organisations, communities and individuals on how the IAS can best do this. We would like to hear from you about your experiences and perspectives on the IAS, including what is working well and where improvements could be made.

How to provide feedback?

You can provide feedback through this short online survey.

The survey will open on Tuesday 6 October 2026 and close at 11.59pm AEDT on Wednesday 4 November 2026.

The survey includes a mix of multiple choice, rating and free text questions. We are interested in your experiences with the IAS, including your satisfaction with different processes, your experiences engaging with NIAA and how you think the IAS could improve. You don't need to answer all the questions.

The survey is expected to take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary and you can choose to skip or not answer questions. Please note, you will not be able to save and return to this survey.

You also have an option to attach a short submission (e.g. a Word document or PDF) if you would like to include more information (1 file only, 3-page limit). Please do not include any personal information if you would like to provide this information anonymously.

If you have any questions about this survey, please email IASsurvey@niaa.gov.au.

What will we do with your feedback?

All feedback will remain confidential, and you do not need to tell us your name or where you work. Please see our Privacy Notice below for further information.

By clicking ‘submit’ you consent to sharing your feedback with the NIAA to help inform improvements to the IAS.

We will use the NIAA survey platform to securely collect and store responses. Responses will be stored within NIAA’s secure network. Please see the Privacy Notice for more information on how your submission (both survey responses and short submission) will be used.

Your feedback will be used to consider ways to strengthen the IAS to ensure it operates well and helps achieve better outcomes for communities.

Your feedback will remain anonymous unless you choose to provide personal information such as your name.
