Taking action in response to the urgent challenges facing communities in Alice Springs and Central Australia, the Australian Government has invested $48.8 million over two years to improve community safety in Alice Springs and a landmark package of $250 million for A Better, Safer Future for Central Australia plan.

The Australian Government in partnership with the Northern Territory Government is working with the communities and organisations on long-term solutions for a better, safer future.

In January 2023, the Central Australian Regional Controller, Dorrelle Anderson was appointed by the Prime Minister and the NT Chief Minister to engage and consult with communities, and to ensure that decisions being made come from community. The Office of the Central Australian Regional Controller (OCARC) with staff from National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) and the NT Government supports the work of the Regional Controller.

The Australian Government investment includes $48.8 million over two years to improve community safety in Alice Springs and a landmark package of $250 million for A better, Safer Future for Central Australia plan.
