Applications are now open for WEX Canberra 2025. Applications will close on 22 August 2025.
The Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with hands-on experience and knowledge about career pathways in the Australian Government.
WEX Canberra 2025 will be held from Sunday 26 October to Friday 31 October 2025.
All accommodation, transportation and meals are provided at no cost and students are accompanied by teachers and mentors who provide cultural mentoring and leadership guidance.
Activities and experiences may include:
- Meeting First Nations leaders, including government Ministers and parliamentarians, and obtaining advice on career planning.
- Visits to different Australian Government agencies, including the Australian Defence Force Academy, Australian Federal Polic, and the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
- Working alongside Indigenous mentors who will help guide your personal leadership journey.
- Meeting other Indigenous students and future leaders.
- One-on-one and small group workshops on leadership, mentoring and how to make the most of your school learning experience.
- Cultural activities.
- A Careers Expo, where students can talk to representatives from a range of government agencies.
