Wangkangurru Land Claim No. 156

Wangkangurru Land Claim No. 156

Publication author(s):

Report of the former Aboriginal Land Commissioner, the Hon Peter R A Gray AM, to the Minister for Indigenous Affairs and to the Administrator of the Northern Territory.

Publication abstract:

The Wangkangurru Land Claim No 156 was a claim made under section 50 of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) (the Land Rights Act). The land the subject of the claim is described by the Northern Territory Land Titles Office as being Northern Territory Portion 4917. The former Aboriginal Land Commissioner, the Hon Peter RA Gray AM, came to the conclusion that he was unable to find that there are traditional Aboriginal owners of the land and therefore did not make a recommendation that the land be granted in accordance with sections 11 and 12 of the Land Rights Act. It was the former Land Aboriginal Commissioner’s understanding that the provision of the Report to the Minister will dispose of the land claim.
