Build your career while making a meaningful difference for First Nations people and communities
Applications are now open for the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) 2027 Graduate Program – a unique opportunity to begin your career in the Australian Public Service while contributing to work that truly matters.
As a graduate with the NIAA, you will gain exposure to the rich diversity of cultures, communities and lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of the perspectives, aspirations and priorities of First Nations communities across Australia, while contributing to policies and programs that support meaningful, community-led outcomes.
We welcome applications from graduates of all backgrounds who want to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
As the lead agency for Indigenous affairs, the NIAA is committed to growing its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce, recognising that First Nations knowledge, culture and lived experience are central to our work and success.
As part of the NIAA Graduate Program, you’ll get more than just a job. Through hands on, real-world experience and opportunities to learn from skilled professionals, you’ll contribute to positive outcomes for communities from day one.
Our program includes a tailored induction, ongoing professional development, access to mentors and supportive staff networks, and a workplace culture that values wellbeing, flexibility and inclusion.
Through structured rotations across diverse teams, you’ll build a broad understanding of our Agency’s work and develop practical skills in policy, program delivery, research, stakeholder engagement and analysis.
If you’re looking for a career with purpose, growth and the opportunity to stay connected to your community, the NIAA Graduate Program could be the perfect place to start.
