A Comprehensive Review and Assessment of Indigenous Housing Data

Publication author(s):

The University of Adelaide (Megan Moskos, Linda Isherwood and Emma Baker)

Publication abstract:

The National Indigenous Australians Agency funded the University of Adelaide to undertake a comprehensive review of Indigenous housing data in Australia, identifying what information exists, where it is held, and where critical gaps remain. By assessing national and jurisdictional datasets on Indigenous households, housing providers and the workforce, the report evaluates data quality, coverage and cultural relevance.

Its aims are to strengthen the evidence base for policy, uphold Indigenous data sovereignty, and support more effective housing planning and accountability. The report provides clear recommendations to improve data collection, access and linkage, ensuring future datasets capture housing conditions, experiences, aspirations and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
