Indigenous Protected Areas Program

Program 1.1 - Jobs, Land and Economy
Activity type:
June 2021
Last updated:
5th October 2021

The Indigenous Protected Areas (IPA) Program has been helping Indigenous communities voluntarily dedicate their land or sea country as IPAs since 1997. IPAs combine traditional and contemporary knowledge into a framework to leverage partnerships with conservation and commercial organisations and provide employment, education and training opportunities for Indigenous people.

This evaluation will assess the extent to which IPA Program objectives and associated environmental, cultural, social and economic outcomes are being achieved. The evaluation will inform continuous improvement in future program design, including consideration of Australian Government funding beyond the current program funding expiry date of June 2023.
