The NAIDOC 2026 Local Grants Opportunity – Now open
Grants are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and supporting organisations across Australia to celebrate NAIDOC Week between 5 and 12 July 2026.
In 2026, $3 million is available across 3 funding streams:
- Educational Institutions (up to $1,500)
- Small-scale grants (up to $10,000), and
- Large-scale grants (more than $10,000 and up to $25,000).
NAIDOC Local Grants provide a contribution towards the cost of NAIDOC activities and are not expected to cover the full running costs of an event. Most grants will be awarded for $10,000 or less.
Activities or events must meet the objectives of the NAIDOC Local Grants Opportunity, which are to:
- support the expression, engagement and re-vitalisation of First Nations cultures
- celebrate the history, culture and achievements of First Nations people
- increase First Nations peoples’ participation in the social and economic life of Australia
- promote broader understanding and acceptance of the unique place of First Nations cultures in Australian society.
Events and activities could include:
- family fun days
- arts based activities, including design work, painting, dancing, crafts and storytelling
- cultural activities, including Welcome to Country
- Elders’ activities
- bush tucker and other community cooking activities
- NAIDOC themed sporting activities or competitions
- activities that actively promote reconciliation
- activities that promote heathy outcomes for First Nations people.
The NAIDOC Local Grants are delivered under Program 1.4 – Culture and Capability of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
