The NAIDOC 2026 Local Grants Opportunity – Now open

Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026. Local grant applications now open. Closes 19 February 2026

Grants are available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and supporting organisations across Australia to celebrate NAIDOC Week between 5 and 12 July 2026.

In 2026, $3 million is available across 3 funding streams:

  1. Educational Institutions (up to $1,500)
  2. Small-scale grants (up to $10,000), and
  3. Large-scale grants (more than $10,000 and up to $25,000).

NAIDOC Local Grants provide a contribution towards the cost of NAIDOC activities and are not expected to cover the full running costs of an event. Most grants will be awarded for $10,000 or less.

Activities or events must meet the objectives of the NAIDOC Local Grants Opportunity, which are to:

  • support the expression, engagement and re-vitalisation of First Nations cultures
  • celebrate the history, culture and achievements of First Nations people
  • increase First Nations peoples’ participation in the social and economic life of Australia
  • promote broader understanding and acceptance of the unique place of First Nations cultures in Australian society.

Events and activities could include:

  • family fun days
  • arts based activities, including design work, painting, dancing, crafts and storytelling
  • cultural activities, including Welcome to Country
  • Elders’ activities
  • bush tucker and other community cooking activities
  • NAIDOC themed sporting activities or competitions
  • activities that actively promote reconciliation
  • activities that promote heathy outcomes for First Nations people.

The NAIDOC Local Grants are delivered under Program 1.4 – Culture and Capability of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
