The Wreck Bay Caring for Country Rangers project is designed to expand the region's natural and cultural resource management operations.  This is done by establishing an Indigenous ranger team to support the Jervis Bay Territory.

A common message heard throughout the project’s development is to the importance of seeking advice, knowledge and direction of the Seniors and Elders of the Jervis Bay Territory. This is essential to guide the management of cultural values.

The Wreck Bay Caring for Country Rangers project will:

  • Engage with and include those who hold the Wreck Bay peoples' knowledge, traditions and Lore.
  • Transfer that knowledge to the next generations through cultural integrity and respect.

The rangers work with Parks Australia in the co-management of Booderee National Park. They also undertake activities outside of the National Park such as:

  • weed and feral animal control
  • fire management, including cultural burning practices
  • cultural heritage and environmental conservation
  • workforce development training.
